What you actually get from Podium
Podium is a customer communication and review-generation platform for local businesses, built around text-based interactions such as review requests, webchat, and payments. It started in Lehi, Utah, went through Y Combinator in 2016, and has since raised Series A and B funding and expanded internationally. Recent product direction adds an AI Employee add-on that can be layered onto any plan for automated customer interactions. All plans and the AI add-on are sold through a sales conversation rather than self-serve checkout.
Podium pricing
Podium does not publish a public rate card. No published prices. Plans described as custom to the business, quote via sales call.

No public rate card. Any number you see quoted for Podium on a comparison site is a third-party report, not a vendor price. Ask for the contract minimum and the termination clause on the first call.
Strengths
- Text-first workflow ties review requests into a broader messaging and payments platform
- AI Employee add-on layers automation onto review and lead workflows
- Backed by Series A and B funding and Y Combinator, with 100K+ businesses cited
- Strong brand recognition in local services and home services verticals
Weaknesses
- No pricing published on the site, plans and the AI add-on both require a sales call
- Pricing page has no comparison table with actual costs despite referencing one
- Platform is broader than pure review management, buyers who want a narrow review tool pay for adjacent messaging features
Best for
- Local service businesses that want review generation bundled with texting, webchat, and payments
- Teams already sold on a messaging-centric workflow for customer interactions
Not ideal for
- Buyers who only need review generation and do not want a bundled communications platform
- Businesses that want to see exact pricing before booking a sales call
The removals Podium performs are real. They are also temporary
Podium does remove records, and the removals are genuine. When a listing comes down through this service, it is down. That is worth paying for, and it is not what the criticism below is about.
The problem is durability. Records in this category repopulate, because the listing was never the source. It was a copy of a feed, and the feed is still running. Remove the listing and the same record returns on the next refresh, typically within one to three months, often under a slightly different URL that the original removal ticket no longer covers.
Flat exposure, rising invoice, and both parties calling it maintenance.
That turns a one-time purchase into a treadmill priced as a permanent fix. Count your own listings twice, ninety days apart. Most buyers find exposure flat year over year despite continuous spend: removals and repopulation running at similar rates, with the invoice as the only line that grows. Closing the upstream feed is harder work. It is also the only version that compounds.
Where this lands in 2026
Removal has a second durability problem. A page live long enough to be crawled persists as a citation after the page itself is gone. An assistant then repeats a fact from a record that exists nowhere you can point at. Verify a removal by checking what the models say, not only what the URL returns.
That is why this review sits on the site of a firm that competes with Podium. The argument is not that Podium is a bad product. Its category was designed against a version of your problem that no longer describes the whole surface. The part it was never built to cover is the part growing fastest.
Review software is good at asking happy customers to post. It is useless the week a coordinated one-star attack lands, because volume tooling cannot tell a real complaint from a bought one.
Key facts
- Founded in 2014, started as a tire shop text-messaging tool before pivoting to broader local business software
- Went through Y Combinator in 2016, raised Series A funding in 2017 and Series B in 2018
- Named to the Forbes Cloud 100 list and Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies list in 2019
- States it has powered over 17 million customer interactions across 100,000+ businesses
Podium covers one lane. We cover the surface.
You get review management as one protocol inside a measured engagement, not as a standalone subscription. Your exposure is measured first against a Bayesian baseline, then the counter-strike work runs, then your surface stays monitored across search, review platforms, and the AI answer layer.
